Sergei's Journey to Roof It Right: A Story of Resilience, Innovation, and Quality
When Sergei arrived in America from Russia, he carried more than just two suitcases—he carried hopes, dreams, and an engineering degree. Yet, life in a new country was challenging. With limited English, Sergei found himself navigating a world where communication became his biggest barrier. "I knew how to build almost anything, but trying to understand what people really wanted—that was a different story," he recalls. Despite his good intentions and strong work ethic, bridging the gap between expectations and reality wasn’t easy.
Even with his good hand skills and background in submarine design and waterproofing, Sergei quickly realized that roofing was his true calling. Waterproofing roofs, as it turns out, wasn’t so different from keeping submarines dry. "I guess you could say it was my call from above, quite literally," he jokes.
But Sergei wasn’t someone who gave up easily. With a background in submarine design and waterproofing, Sergei saw an opportunity in an unlikely place: roofing. It was more than just a job—it was a calling. In roofing, Sergei found a new way to apply his engineering skills to protect something even more vital: people’s homes.
Building More Than a Business: The Birth of a Team
However, Sergei quickly learned that success in roofing wasn’t just about technical skill—it was about teamwork. "I realized that in America, you can go fast on your own, but if you want to go far, you need a team," he says. And so, Roof It Right was born—not just as a roofing company, but as a diverse, united team of immigrants and Americans working side by side.
Sergei faced the challenge of not only integrating cultures but also aligning work styles, standards, and expectations. That’s where his bilingual project managers became essential. "Our project managers make sure that communication flows smoothly between customers, their budgets, and our labor force," Sergei explains. This approach allowed Roof It Right to seamlessly blend American standards with the skilled craftsmanship of immigrant laborers, creating a company built on trust and efficiency.
Taking on the Tough Jobs Others Avoid
As Sergei and his team worked their way across roofs, siding, and gutters, one thing became clear: there was an enormous demand for exterior repairs and maintenance that most companies wouldn’t touch. While full roof replacements remained a cornerstone of their work, Roof It Right began to specialize in the jobs others found too complex or time-consuming. "We handle the jobs others avoid," Sergei says confidently, "and in doing so, we save our customers money."
Roof It Right’s ability to step up where others shy away set them apart in the roofing industry. Whether it’s a tricky gutter repair, a hard-to-reach chimney, or restoring a historical property, Sergei’s team became known for handling the tough jobs with precision.

But as Roof It Right grew, Sergei faced another challenge: how to remain competitive in an industry where prices were rising and budgets were tightening. "At one point, we realized we were becoming too expensive," Sergei admits. "So, in 2023, we made a big decision. We cut out the salespeople."
By removing the middlemen, Roof It Right streamlined operations and reduced costs. Sergei didn’t just stop there. The company introduced online instant quotes—an innovative feature that made it easier for customers to get an accurate price on their roofing needs quickly. "Now, we’re more competitive than ever, and our online quotes often beat the competition," Sergei says proudly.

Throughout his career, Sergei has never stopped working hands-on. He’s personally installed thousands of roofs, and that experience became the foundation for Roof It Right’s high standards. "I knew exactly what needed to be controlled on each job," Sergei explains, which is why he developed a 39-point checklist for shingle roof replacements. This system ensures that every installation is done to the highest standard, inspected by supervisors and quality control teams.
